For Halloween we’re having a dark and disturbing night of Guillermo del Toro films. First off, El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan’s Labyrinth), a gothic fairytale set during the Spanish Civil War, where young Ofelia must deal with the trials of the war alongside another, more fantastical set of trials designed to help her reclaim her place as princess of another world. After that, we’ll watch El Spino del Diablo (The Devil’s Backbone) – at the end of the Civil War, a boys’ orphanage in Spain is haunted by one of its former residents, whose lost soul is starting to kill. We round off the night with El Orfanato (The Orphanage), part-produced by del Toro, in which a young boy’s disappearance begins to unravel long-buried secrets.
All films are in Spanish, with English subtitles. Coming in costume is highly encouraged!
